I love Canada Day. It’s one of the rare days a year you get to watch NHL GM’s make a complete jack ass of themselves.
Below is my re-cap of some of today’s activities. I’m sure you’ll all be printing this out to refer to at a latter date because I’m always right about these things.
The Avs – Tucker and Raycroft
Um, seriously….am I supposed to be happy about this? Let’s count how many “grinders” the Avs currently have: Guite, Lappy, Mcleod, McCormick, Parker, Ledin and Tucker. That’s 6 grinders, without Tucker. Um, did the Broad St. Bully’s have 7 grinders? Maybe, but probably not.
Then there’s Raycroft. So I thought the worst that could happen would be Jose Teddybear being backed up by Raycroft. Never in my wildest dreams did I think Raycroft was going to back up Budaj. This is beyond bad to me. I’m literally speechless.
Onto the Sabres – Lalime – I love this signing. I have been quite fond of Lalime since his days with the Sens. I mean, anyone that puts Marvin the Martian on his helmet is cool in my book. I think he’ll be a great team player and a reliable back-up. Crunchy won’t need to play 80 games this year.
Now when to do they announce the Orpik signing, because that will make me truely happy.
The Wild – Andrew Brunette – I’m bummed as an Avs fan, but stoked as a Wild fan. Great signing!
The Caps – Teddybear – I can’t believe they dumped this much money into this poser. Seriously, Ovie can’t score enough goals to make up for Theo’s inability to stop the puck. Bonne Chance.
The Devils – I love today’s signings. My only fear is this return to the past isn’t going to be as productive as everyone is hoping. See: Avalanche 2007-2008.
Redden and Campbell – I have two words for these two. Buy-out. Expect one. I can not believe either of these guys got the money and the term they did. Seriously, did the GM’s fall from the 9th floor of a local hotel and manage to live???
Speaking of the Blackhawks…12 mil in goalies? Ummm…the Sabres shit about the salaries of Miller and Mouthy. They were not 12 mil together. So, where’s Habby off too? I say LA. Seriously, he can’t stay in Chicago. Do you see Habby handing Soupy a tissue the first thousand times he busts into tears. Um, no. At least Patty Kane will be there to remind him of all the good times he had in Buffalo and what he left behind.
Jeff Finger – 3.5 mil at year for 4 years. Again, seriously? I think the press got it right when they said Toronto got “Fingered” on this deal. Talk about screwed. I hope Cliff at least enjoyed the screwing. coughcoughbuyoutcoughcough.
Sundin’s billion dollar offer from the Canucks. We know everyone in the sane world believes this is insane. Does any Canucks fan even like this offer? I say “no”.
At this point, there’s nothing else that happened today that got me all hot and bothered. And trust me, it was more bothered than hot.
