I need your help

February 3, 2009

So, now that I’ve done the whole, “Hey, look who bought a house!” thing, I need some help.  My parents just received some paperwork regarding DirectTV, and it really does look like a great deal.  That said, I remember hearing somewhere that people didn’t like it.  (Or was it Dishnetwork?)  Anywho, do you have DirectTV?  Do you like it?  Would you go back to TW, Comcast, Cox if you could?

Thanks!

PS – to the person searching “is Ryan Miller Canadian?”  The answer is Duh, no, unless Canada has absconded with Michigan.  You obviously have never heard anything about Ryan Miller.

I’m Baaaaaaaaaaaack!

January 30, 2009

Yeah!!!  I’m so happy to be back.  I never realized how hard it would be to not have the time, or means, to watch hockey.  Holy smokes have I become addicted.  I’ll save you an indepth recap of the last two weeks in hockey as I haven’t really seen any.

Here’s a few quick hits -

It was very weird to update the Timmy Ho count and all all 6 games to the “Played” category instead of “Missed.”  This is truly mind-boggling.  I have this strange fear, Darcy will be lulled into “Timmy will never get hurt again” and decide not to trade him at the deadline.  We all know he’s going to have 3 fingers amputated on 3/5 and never play again.  I think I may drive to Buffalo and steal Darcy’s rose colored glasses.  Hopefully that would be enough.

Dear MSG and Buffalo Sabres,

You created a press release AND sent me an email stating all 4 games on this road trip would be televised.  It would have been REALLY nice if you would have kept your word, OR stated that it was only true for those people within X distance of Buffalo and NOT the entire blackout area.  I kept flipping between the two MSG channels on Tuesday with no luck.  That was until the Rangers game ended.  Once that game ended I was given an in progress Sabres game.  They were already up 3-0.  Wednesday night?  No such luck.  I kept flipping to see when the Rangers/Pens and Knicks/Hawks game would end hoping for a repeat of Tuesday night.  No such luck.  No televised game.  I had already tried NHL Gamecenter since I had to pay for it, but I’m in the blackout area so there was no legal visual.  Thankfully, I’ve discovered another venue where I can watch games regardless of blackout areas.  My very long winded point here is this, you said you would show the f’n game, so show the f’n game.  I’m 5 hours from NYC and 2 from Buffalo, what do you think I want to watch?  (Hint: It does not rhyme with Blangers.)  Hopefully, you’ll pull your head out of your ass and we’ll have the right games on Saturday.

Sincerely,

Chaz

I love how Staffy did the Sabres interview with the pigeon on his shoulder but was all coy on the TSN interview about the meaning of the pigeon.  It’s a private thing, ya’know?  I sat here watching it and laughing.  HELLO, go to buffalonews.com, there’s a WHOLE article on the pigeon.

Some of you may have noticed one of my previous posts has disappeared.  Apparently, 4 months after it was originally written, there are many angry people who have found it.  So, it’s been taken down.  I politely request everyone that has written me lots of very not nice things, stop.  It’s gone now, OK.  You are on the verge of becoming exactly what you have been calling me.  And that’s all I have to say about that.

Now onto what has been consuming a whole heck of a lot of my time over the last few weeks.

A house!!

(I was going to post a picture of the outside, but realized I haven’t taken one and I really don’t want the people in paragraph above to figure out where I live.  I have no doubt I would come home to find my home burned to the ground.)

So, instead you’ll get a few snap shots and general comments on my new abode.

::happy dance::

Let’s start on the first floor –

There are three bedrooms.  While none are huge, they’ll work for me.  The previous owners also have a thing for wood.

This is the smallest of the bedrooms.

That’s real wood in the panelling.  Amazing, I know.

Next, is my favorite.  The Salmon colored bathroom!  Woo-hoo!!!

Now, I don’t really have any good pictures of the bathroom because there are all these weird walls separating it into “spaces.”  This is on my redo list for next year.

The sink and vanity. Behind it is a storage cabinet with the original 1950s countertop.

Unlike the rest of the bathroom, the shower is brand new.  There was an elderly lady living here, so they have removed the bathtub.  I’m a bath type of person, that will need to return.

Why is it you lose half the room when you try to take a picture of the whole thing?

Here’s the living room.  I wish I had openned the blinds, because there’s a huge bay window there.

It doesn’t really look it from this angle, but the kitchen is actually really big.  One of my first projects is going to be taking down the wall on the right.  It encloses the stair well to the cellar and really makes the kitchen look much small.  After that…those cabinets!

Here is the rest of the kitchen that was hidden behind the stairwell wall.

Don’t ask what’s up with that cabinet…we haven’t been able to figure it out.  It will be going away!

Right next to the stairs is the entrance to my sun porch and deck.

The house sits at an angle, so there is a huge side and back yard off the deck and not so much next to the porch.

AND the other reason the wall in the kitchen is coming down. This is what the stairwell looks like. Ouch!

The bottom of the stairs opens to this - A BAR! Ok, so they closed the bar off, but Ill be ripping that puppy down.

Heres the other half of the finished cellar. The wood stove is going. In its place, a gas fireplace.

This brings me to my FAVORITE room.  We call it the torture room.  Why?

So, that’s my new abode!

The Sabres are welcome at any time.  Although, the bad ones may find themselves strapped to the machine above….

I have not forgotten you

January 20, 2009

Things in Chazland have  been insane over the last two weeks.  I’d be lying if I said I’d seen Monday’s game, or even most of Saturday’s.  You see, I’m attempting to purchase a house and there have been a few snafu’s.  To make matters worse, I’m on the road this week.  In case you’re wondering, it’s really hard to try and work, in another state and take care of house things you can’t see and barely understand.  Anywho, I really hope things pull together over the course of this week so I can put it behind me and get onto important things like paint chips and Sabres games.

Thanks for understanding,

Chaz

Happy Holidays!

December 24, 2008

I hope everyone has  a wonderful holiday, no matter what holiday it is you celebrate!  I will be celebrating the next few days with my family.  having two young nephews really re-invigorates the whole holiday season.

I know I haven’t been around a lot over the last week and I could give you lots of valid excuses why.  The truth is, I’m just not into hockey right now.  I know there are games on and I know I should be watching them.  Instead I find myself saying, “Meh, there’s a rerun of Numb3rs on…I think I’ll watch that instead.”  It’s a sad world, but it’s currently my world.

Any ideas, on how to get this turned around?  I’m going to take the next few days off to think about it.  Hopefully the ghosts of past (Biron), present (Goose) and future (Gerbe) will visit with inspiration for me to return to my non-scrooge hockey ways.  At the very least it will be a noise bunch.

I could have been there…

December 16, 2008

Over the last few days, I’ve been kicking myself.  After Friday nights game, I decided that Saturday would be much better spent watching Frosty the Snowman with my nephews and once bedtime rolled around cuddling  with A or O.  So that is exactly what I did.  After O fell asleep, I tiptoed downstairs in order to take my nightly medicine and see the pain inflicted upon the Sabres by the Devils.  It was 4-2.  I was mad.  I could have spent the first period teaching my nephews about hockey, but I thought they’d rather poke their eyes out rather than see the game.  Argh.

You may remember a few weeks ago when I said this? Well, here I sit in my hotel room in Charlotte listening to the Canes take on the Habs. The same Habs that my favorite, non-Sabres, player plays on. Who’s a dipshit now? Yup, that would be me.

On Monday as I was preparing to head to the airport, I came acrossed two stories that literally had me in tears. Now, this could be due to the fact that there are currently a few of my family members that will most likely not make it through 2009, but I think it’s because I’m PMSing. The first was the Blackhawks getting on a bus and hiking 2 hours to attend the funeral of the GM’s pops. The second was the story of Don Sanderson. My only thought while reading this article was, “Timmy, don’t you see this REALLY could be you.” When I read both of these articles, I decided this would be my Monday night post. Over the course of a few hours while I attempted to migrate South for the winter  week, EVERYONE picked up these two articles. So, I scrapped that plan. Instead, I went out to all my favorite blogs listed over there on the right.   I quickly read this post by Katebits and thought, “Poor Goose!  At least they wear shin pads.”  About 15 minutes later, I read this post by Amy and thought, “Why would Gooses’ shin bleed? X-rays?  They wear pads, PEOPLE!”  I then opted to re-read Amy’s post and realized it said CHIN not SHIN.  ::headdesk::  I spent the next 10 minutes wondering what havoc Jeep wreaked on my poor Goose.  If he’s severely maimed for life…well, Jeep better watch his knees as he’s leaving the arena.  And that’s all I have to say about that.

Tomorrow night, I will be in NJ during the first and second periods of the game.  My hope is a bar, somewhere in the Newark airport will be playing the Devils game allowing me to watch my beloved Sabres.  In my gut, I feel this won’t happen.  Since my flight lands in the ‘Cuse at 11:30 you’ll have to wait until Thursday for an update on how much they love the Devils in NJ.  =)  It’ll be Friday if you want a coherant update, but when am I coherent?

I would also like to thank Carolyn for the suggestion of Dior Blackout Mascara.  I stopped by Sephora and picked me up some.

Dior Blackout Mascara, where have you been all my life?  Why is it just now, I have discovered you?

This is some seriously GREAT mascara people.  The next time I see D Roy, I’m going to suggest he try some.  It’ll work wonders on his llama lashes.

Less then timely posts

October 7, 2008

I want to apologize for the length of time between posts, as it will not improve anytime until November.  I think most of you know I’m trying to wrap up some big projects at work while interviewing for a job with another company.  On top of everything, my lease ends on 10/31 and my landlord is a psycho hose beast, SO I have to move by the end of the month.

I’ll definitely be around for a post or two a week, but I can’t guarantee it’ll be daily.

Thanks for understanding!
